'I've heard that before!' - Arsenal fans mock Ivan Gazidis over AC Milan ambitions

Arsenal fans have taken to social media to mock past comments by former Gunners' Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis.

The South African left the Emirates Stadium in October 2018, after over 10 years at the club. Two months later, he took over a similar role at Serie A club AC Milan.

It has not though been an easy ride at his new club, with the side missing out on Champions League qualification at the end of last season, and a subsequent change of manager.

The side currently sit in 10th place in the Serie A table 22 points adrift of rivals Inter at the top of the table.

2018/2019 financial results (via Swiss Ramble) also show that the club have recorded a pre-tax loss of €143 million, by far the most in Italy.

Back in October, when the financial results were originally released, Gazidis said: "Elliot wants to take this club back to the top of Italian and world football, and we want to do it without waiting 10 or 15 years."

Them comments have caught the eye on onlooking Arsenal fans, who have seen a similarity in the comments made by Gazidis back in June 2013.

"We should be able to compete at a level like a club such as Bayern Munich," he said (via the Mirror).

"I'm not saying we are there by any means, we have a way to go before we can put ourselves on that level. But this whole journey over the past ten years really has been with that goal in mind which is why I say that this is an extraordinarily ambitious club.

"We get beaten up along the way but I think we are an extraordinarily ambitious club. This has been about putting us up with the best in the world and now the question is turning that platform now into on-field success."

Fans on social media were quick to remind the former Arsenal man of his past comments.

Milan lost the derby against fierce rivals Inter 4-2 on Sunday, leaving a 22-point gap between the teams in Sere A.

The team are currently in 10th place in the table, 10 points adrift of a top four finish, meaning that should Milan wish to reach their aims, then performances on the pitch must improve.

They are next in action on Monday when they take on Torino at home.
