Every week a Guardian Money reader submits a question, and it’s up to you to help him or her out – a selection of the best answers will appear in next Saturday’s paper.
I filled in my tax return (I’m PAYE but I have a buy-to-let) and paid the £7,600 owed plus £3,000 on account. So I was amazed to receive a letter from HMRC saying I was owed a rebate of £9,000. I can’t work out how I’m owed the money. Should I stay stumm? Shove it in a savings account? Send it back?
