A man’s ingenuity when baking cookies has TikTok users praising his sharp thinking. In a viral TikTok, Michael (@michael_c919191) reveals how he makes do when lacking proper baking tools and has a hankering for homemade cookies.
A 16-in-1 painting tool
“Home depot’s 15-in-1 painting tool is really 16-in1,” Michael begins. In the clip, he uses the Husky 15-in-1 painter’s multi tool with stainless steel to grab a cookie from the baking tray and place it onto a plate. It has a spacious black handle for easy holding and the stainless steel end is curved on either side with a flat, sharp edge.
According to the home improvement site, the tool will set you back $5.98. The product listing states that the tool combines “a spreader, chisel scraper, paint can opener, a roller cleaner, a nail puller” and more.
Michael explains what led him to such drastic measures in the caption: “When you’re moving and you have yet to bring any cooking utensils to the new house.”
His video has since earned more than 315,000 views as of Sunday.
Viewers offer more uses for the painting tool
The comments were littered with even more ideas for the painting tool, rendering it closer to an unlimited uses-in-one product.
“17 and 1 it can be used for cutting pizza as well,” one user observed.
A viewer realized another use for the tool: “Did you count peeling veggies?”
One shared how he uses the painting tool for anything other than painting. “Brother it’s so much more than that. we use them in the restaurant for everything with the grill. from cleaning to moving the slats,” they wrote.
Perhaps inspired by his comments section, Michael shared a follow-up with a new use for the tool: Scratching his dog’s ears. The Mary Sue reached out to Michael via TikTok direct message and comment.
Home improvement hacks for the kitchen
It’s not uncommon for folks to find unconventional uses for home improvement tools. In one viral video, a man shows his “potato peeling hack.” He puts a potato at the end of a long drill bit attached to a power drill. Then he grabs the peeler, places it on top of the potato, and turns on the drill. As the potato spins erratically, the peeler is doing its job. He’s left with a perfectly albeit smaller potato at the end. That clip earned more than 1.6 million views.
In another, one TikToker uses the drill for another kitchen hack. He affixes a whisk at the end of the drill and goes to town mixing cream for hot chocolate. This appears to be a common method, with one user going viral for whisking the pancake batter with his “DIY hand mixer.”

Funnily enough, it seems the “hacks” go both ways. Several DIYers have gone viral after using cooking ingredients to eradicate problems usually targeted by tools or home improvement products. One expert advised folks to throw away their mold “cleaners” and to use baking soda instead. In another, a garden expert showed how to use white vinegar to kill weeds instead of the chemical weed killer sold in stores.
Several online spaces like DIY Subreddits and TikTok accounts dedicate all their content exclusively for hacks like these. It’s only a matter of time before these experts find Michael’s video and praise him for the new trick.
