'I uninvited my mum from my wedding - I knew she was going to make my day hell'

Parents tend to be top of the list when it comes to wedding invitations, but this isn't the case for one bride-to-be who has confessed to uninviting her own mother from her special day. In the midst of wedding stress, the mother of bride added fuel to the fire by calling her daughter offensive names in a dramatic spat between the pair.

After cutting ties with her mother and revoking her right to attend, Felicity Rae has been praised online for her video discussing the difficult decision. Felicity - who is set to tie the knot in just five days' time - shared the whole saga on TikTok.

Explaining her experience on the popular video-sharing app, she said: "I uninvited my own mum from my wedding, this happened a few months ago after months and months of planning.

"I just felt not appreciated, not supported, and I just felt this heavy anxiety and overwhelming feeling that she was just going to make my life and day a living hell on the most special day of my life thus far."

Felicity explained that the last time she spoke with her mum was during a quick Facetime call - where she detailed her stress - and the pair haven't spoken since.

She continued: "I told her that I'm stressed out, she knew that I had been feeling kind of overwhelmed, and just under pressure.

"At one point, she even said that this isn't normal and that I should get help instead of being like, 'How can I help?'

"During the call, she said, 'You know what? You've turned quite the f*****g snob lately' - those exact words.

"Immediately, I said, 'You're uninvited to the wedding' and she said, 'That's fine' - and then I blocked her just on social media."

Whilst Felicity confirmed that her mother can reach out to her via text or a quick phone call - she has not done so.

"She has gone to one of my bridesmaids and put her against me," Felicity claimed.

"She's probably said awful things about me to other people because she's probably embarrassed that she's been uninvited to her own daughter's wedding.

"I just don't want to sacrifice my mental health and be in a bad mood and project that onto my husband on our wedding day," she added.

"It's not fair to me, it's not fair to him, it's not fair to anyone else attending that's not acting the way that my mum might be acting.

"Her behaviour is very unpredictable and I don't know what she's going to do next."

Whilst the mother and daughter are yet to speak, Felicity has heard through the grapevine of her mother's attempts to "rope her sister and her father to get things out of [her]".

"I don't feel like she honestly realises what she does and how she makes people feel," she added.

"She plays the victim and she has said to my bridesmaid, 'I will never apologise for anything because I didn't do anything'."

Whilst the matter still felt raw to share, Felicity explained that she was blown away by the positivity of her video - as expressed by fellow TikTokers.

The upcoming bride detailed how she has "received hundreds of comments and direct messages from others who [she] has really helped".

In a bid to help out other people "who may be struggling with family dynamics", she shared her thoughts on how her video rocketed into internet stardom.

Felicity told The Mirror: "I didn’t expect my TikTok to reach as many people as it did, but I am overwhelmed by all the encouragement and support as it’s not an easy decision to distance yourself from family but sometimes it is necessary.

"If my video can help even one person overcome generational trauma or have the courage to stand up for themselves, that is all that matters. Your peace is #1. Protect your peace."

Many TikTok users shared their support for the woman, with one saying: "You did the right thing to protect yourself and your energy. Sometimes our own family can be the most hurtful. I’m proud of you for setting boundaries".

Another agreed: "I set boundaries with my mom and my sisters. They LOVE to gossip and talk trash about one another. My mom didn't like it and she's very dramatic."

A third said: "I'm so sorry and and I'm glad you did! My mom gave me the silent treatment for a week, a month before my wedding. I'm MOST nervous about her behaviour."
