I may not be an elite athlete, but as a senior entertainment reporter who has worked across red carpets, movie premieres, packed schedules and tough deadlines, I know a thing or two about performing and all the pressure that comes with it.
So, when it ~finally~ comes to self-care — for both my sanity and future performances as a journalist — I look to products that can keep me grounded while on the go. In come the Nike Mind 001 shoes.
When I first saw the Nike Mind 001, one thing instantly popped into my crazy imagination: it’s as if Tesla Cyber Trucks had babies with pop-it fidgets and mules.
For those who’ve yet to feast their eyes on this bad bois, the Nike Mind 001s are a stripped-back recovery mule that features technology (22 independent foam nodes) that targets “key pressure point areas connected to sensory regions of the brain”, encouraging athletes to ground themselves as well as promote recovery.
So, when I was handed the opportunity to give these stress relievers a go ahead of the launch of its new colour wave, Cucumber Calm, I had to say yes — especially after Logies week, which was followed by another week of work.
First reactions to the Nike Mind 001?
While I was sceptical about its shape and the little pressure points, I was pleasantly surprised when they slipped right on my feet.
While I usually rawdog my mules (no socks), I went with some thick socks, just to help me get used to the little pressure points poking at my feet.
After my initial intrigue, I couldn’t stop walking around and rocking back and forth to trigger the little nodes. Just like a pop it, it was SATISFYING.
What’s a full day wearing Nike Mind 001’s like?
Now, not to toot its horn, but I would definitely say: bliss.
As someone who’s usually running around the city in some kind of platform or a knee-high boot, these felt like little massage balls on the feet. The only gripe I had was that I found that the nodes sometimes had sound to them, so it felt like I was wearing those adorable, squeaky toy shoes toddlers would wear.
It also made me wonder if I would risk wearing this if I ever find myself in the Quiet Place universe.
Overall, the shoe itself was incredibly comfy, and it was nice to have a cheeky little massage with every step. After training — not as an elite athlete, and more as someone who likes to lift 4-5 times a week with cardio — it felt like the shoes definitely released some kind of pressure, or aided me when it came to the cool down of the workout.
Obviously, I can’t provide a scientific answer, but I definitely felt some kind of relief after hustling on the stair master for 30 minutes.
Overall thoughts about the Nike Mind 001s?
I don’t mean to glaze them, but if there was a sweet treat for the feet, the Nike Mind 001’s would be the sweet treat.
They’re comfy, they’re sleek, and they’re also a great conversation starter due to their unique shape and the nodes.
How much are the Nike Mind 001: Cucumber Calm and are they worth it?
Its latest colour wave, Cucumber Calm, drops on August 21st at 9am and will set you back $150. I’ve yet to see anything similar to it on the market when it comes to its chunky, futuristic design — as well as the Cucumber Calm colour wave — so it’s a bit hard to compare when it comes to crunching the numbers.
But if you’re someone who values wellness and mindfulness, these are definitely worth chucking in the cart.
You can buy the Nike Mind 001’s ($150) here.
So, if you see me with these Nike Cybertruck-looking stompers on at the gym, feel free to stop me! I’d love to show you the satisfying sensation that is rocking back and forth on the Nike Mind 001 nodes.
