'I tried the new McDonald's McCrispy - it was well worth the 15-year wait'

Chicken burger lovers rejoice: McDonald's has answered all your hangover prayers with a brand new burger and it's the first new permanent item on the menu for 15 years. Luckily, I got my hands on one to give my honest thoughts ahead of the launch.

Following a big announcement last week, the McCrispy is landing in stores across the country today, and I'm here to tell you why you should treat yourself to one - you deserve it.

In my opinion, Maccies is one of those fast food chains that can rarely do any wrong because you know exactly what you're letting yourself in for. Sometimes, you just need a little fried treat - and this new chicken burger delivers just that.

At the launch event, I headed over to the burger van to see what was going on and I was delighted to see the thick, crispy-looking chicken burgers being freshly cooked. With my mouth watering, I ordered one and patiently waited my turn.

After reading the description of the burger, I knew almost instantly that it was right up by street as I'm a big chicken fan. But the stakes were certainly high as the food chain makes bold claims - promising a 'game-changing' burger that's their crispiest yet.

I was so excited to give it a try as it's definitely something McDonald's was missing. Don't get me wrong, the McChicken sandwich is nice, but it lacks texture - a feature that I was desperately hoping the McCrispy would deliver on.

The burger is made with 100% chicken breast fillet, which has been marinated in black pepper and cayenne and is slightly spicy, but not as much as the McSpicy, so you needn't fret if you're not a fan of mega-hot food.

It's topped with McDonald's classic mayonnaise with added cracked black pepper, and features a roasted chicken flavoured coating to give it a "fancy" taste.

The whole thing is then served in a 4-inch artisan glazed bun, that has what Maccies describes as a "sweet nutty toasted flavour" - and I have to say it lives up to the description. A bun can really make or break a burger, but thankfully this one is delicious.

Here is the allergy information for the new burger (Danielle Kate Wroe / Daily Mirror)

Once I'd had a good look at the burger (it looks seriously good!) I decided to tuck in, and my tastebuds were treated to all I mentioned above and more. It honestly tastes divine.

It was love at first sight but it kept delivering with every bite. It was hot, fresh, crispy (as the name suggests) and I'd even go as far to say it's now my favourite burger at Maccies. While I'm not a big fan of beef, this McCrispy offering has knocked the McPlant off the top spot for me, which is big news.

One criticism I have of the burger - and it's one I overheard none other than Big Narstie say at the event too - is that there's no cheese. I assume that when you're ordering it there may be an option to add it, but I think it should come as standard.

I'd probably add extra mayo to mine as well because there wasn't an awful lot on it - but obviously this will vary burger to burger.

The burger is seriously tasty - I guarantee you'll love it (if you like chicken, of course!) (Danielle Kate Wroe / Daily Mirror)

When I quizzed one of the McDonald's staff members at the event on what makes the McCrispy so delish, she said: "It's a whole new bun which is great, the sauce is delicious, the chicken coating is all new, and to be honest, it's a very tasty burger!"

I couldn't agree more! It really was something else and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. So much so, that I must admit, I did go back for seconds...oops.

I know some people are pretty gutted about the Chicken Legend being removed from the menu to make room for the new McCrispy burger, and I get it, I really do. But you have to trust me when I say they were just making way for something bigger and better.
