'I tried the Martin Lewis approved website where outfits from Marks and Spencer and River Island cost £5'

With Summer fast-approaching, people are on the lookout for outfits for weddings, BBQs, picnics, brunch and nights out. But before paying full price for products on the high street, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has suggested browsing a fashion website where almost everything is £5 - or thereabouts.

Martin Lewis spoke about the Everything5Pound website on ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB), where he explained that the site buys leftover and excess stock from retailers like Marks and Spencer, River Island, Oodie and Karen Millen, and sells it for a fraction of the price.

He explained that they're 'often not branded', so whether or not you get a high-end high street item is a bit of luck. But if you know your fashion, it can be worked out.

All clothing on the website ranges from £5-£5.95, with products to choose from including boots, jeans, trousers, occasion dresses - and even wedding dresses. According to Everythhing5Pounds, fashion fans will be able to spot items on the website that can cost upwards of £100 at major high street retailers.

But is it too good to be true? Lea Dzifa Seeberg, a reporter at the Manchester Evening News' sister website MyLondon, tried the Everything5Pounds website herself for a hands on analysis. Here's what Lea said:

I expected to find some frumpy polyester dresses and shoes my nan wouldn't be caught dead in. However, I wasn't even five minutes in before I had 15 tabs open with prospective purchases.

The floral off-the-shoulder dress (£5.75) came in a lovely green shade that's ideal for a summer party or BBQ. Paired with a white zip front cropped denim jacket (£5.95), I'll be wearing it time and time again up until the Autumn. I finished the outfit with a pair of £5.95 Weaved Strap Platform Sandals, which wouldn't appear out of place in Marks and Spencer (M&S), for an elevated look.

The total price of outfit number one came to £17.65. I'd usually pay this price for a single top, so it felt like a success.

Having seen how easy it was to put a high-street outfit together on a budget on the Everything5Pounds website, I was keen to see what else the website would present me with. On my hunt for a second outfit, I immediately stumbled upon a flattering shirred waisit midi dress (£5.95) which comes in a plethora of colours, and nips you in at the waist for a gorgeous silhouette. To go with the floaty Spring/Summer dress, I found some £5.75 encrusted slingback sandals, which will add a touch of glitz and glam to the overall outfit.

On my hunt for bargains, I stumbled into the beauty and makeup section on the Everything5Pounds website. This section has prices that rival Poundland and Primark, and I was blown away by the choice.

In the beauty section of the website, I found liquid highlighter for £3, mascara for £3.50, false eyelashes for £2.50, and, most impressively, HD foundation for £6.50. I couldn't resist getting a few makeup bits to go with my glamorous Summer dresses, and popped a few into my basket. Then it was time to checkout.

In my experience of using budget fashion sites, they'll often get you to pay more by adding ridiculous delivery charges. But no, £3.95 for Royal Mail was all they squeezed out of me - a bargain in itself.

You can shop everything on the Everything5Pounds website, including clothing, shoes and makeup here.
