I tried the £10 Revolution Olaplex dupe and I won't buy Olaplex again

Revolution has recently launched a new Olaplex No. 3 dupe for just £10, with the original costing shoppers a whopping £26 for a small bottle.

The Revolution Haircare Plex 3 Blond Restore Treatmen t is designed for use before shampoo and conditioner to enhance the hair’s condition. Just like Olaplex No. 3, Revolution recommends leaving the product on for as long as desired after combing it through the ends of the hair.

Let’s just say, as a heavily bleached blonde myself, I was incredibly excited to try this out. I’ve forked out a lot of money on expensive Olaplex treatments in the past and I was really after something that didn't break the bank and worked just as well.

The Revolution Haircare Blonde Plex Range features four products which claim to help repair hair and leave it looking blonder and feeling healthier. Prices start from £10 for the shampoo, conditioner and styling cream and the restore treatment is £15.

I know that being blonde is expensive and it’s a big commitment, but it’s a real struggle to afford such expensive products on a monthly basis. Considering a full Olaplex bundle can cost an insane £104, I had really high hopes for this cheaper alternative.

The Plex 3 Blond Restore treatment

First impressions? Well, the Revolution Plex 3 is the exact same size as the Olaplex No. 3, which is always a bonus.

Although 100ml doesn’t seem like a great deal, I feel like I can justify it for £10 as opposed to £26. I usually use deep conditioning treatments like this once a week, but now that I’ve potentially discovered a more affordable dupe, it could end up being two or three times a week.

I’d recently had my hair bleached so it was the perfect time to give this treatment a try. In terms of scent, it smelt much nicer than Olaplex in my opinion, as it's a lot more perfumed and pleasant.

In terms of consistency, it was quite thick, but not quite as thick as Olaplex. This meant that I had to use more to cover the lengths and ends of my hair, but once I’d combed it all through it spread out quite evenly.

I left the treatment overnight in a bun and noticed it didn’t feel as slimy as Olaplex whilst it was soaking into my hair. Once I’d woken up, I washed it off and was amazed at how soft my hair felt.

Perhaps the most alarming thing was how silky it actually made my hair look. Normally with Olaplex it feels soft but doesn’t look shiny, the Revolution Plex product had really given my hair a shine and I felt very glamorous.

The verdict

The Revolution £10 dupe is extremely similar to the original Olaplex product, but there are a few differences that make it better. Firstly, it smells so much nicer, and secondly, it made my hair look so shiny.

In terms of softness, they both had the same effect, but if we're talking about value for money I’ve got to give Revolution top marks. I can honestly say I don’t feel the need to purchase Olaplex No 3 again.

Granted, I’ll probably stick to using the shampoo now and then when I feel like treating myself, but there’s really no need for me to spend £26 on a small bottle anymore when this works exactly the same way.
