'I tried new BYOMA skincare brand I'm convinced it's is about to go viral'

When I popped into my local Boots store a few weeks ago, I spied a new skincare brand that I’m certain is about to go viral. Created by the team behind Tan-Luxe, BYOMA is a beautifully branded skincare collection which only landed in the UK in January.

The affordable skincare solution sees their small but effective line of products all come in at under £15, and they’re currently on a three for two offer for those looking to switch up their routine with some fresh faces.

BYOMA is a brand dedicated to ‘boosting your skin’s barrier’, which is absolutely key for healthy skin. When your skin’s barrier is damaged or broken, that’s when real damage, dryness and irritation occurs.

Founded by the product perfectionist, Marc Elrick, BYOMA offers a ‘no filters, no fluff’ approach to skincare. THe Tan-Luxe founder described his new venture as: “The brand that’s here to challenge and change the future of skincare “

There are seven products in the range, each one formulated with a specialist ‘tri-ceramaide complex’, which is a fancy way of saying ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, which again, is a fancy way of saying ‘things your skin needs’.

For example, ceramides are lipids that are naturally found in the skin, but as you age, the amount of lipids in the skin’s essential barrier depletes, which is why you might look to skincare products like BYOMA to give it a boost to help keep skin hydrated.

I tried out the BYOMA creamy jelly cleanser, moisturising gel cream and brightening serum which offers a super simple three-step routine that’s a real joy to complete. There’s nothing worse than a complicated 10-step skincare session and trying to remember if you’re meant to do your face mask before your serum or your oils before your eye cream.

The bottles each have a tactile rectangular shape, meaning they all sit very nicely next to each other on the shelf or in a cupboard, and have their own fun, neon coloured branding. They’re all made from recyclable materials, too, making them better for the environment.

The first step of my new skincare routine was the BYOMA creamy jelly cleanser, which is definitely more jelly than cream when you dispense it from the top of the yellow pump. The £9.99 cleaner needs one or two pumps to effectively remove makeup, dirt, oils and pollution from the skin without damaging the barrier.

The face wash, as with all of the BYOMA products, is dermatologically tested, soap free, non-comedogenic - meaning it won’t block pores - alcohol and fragrance free, as well as vegan and cruelty free. It’s quite the checklist, but it does tick all the right boxes.

The side of each bottle shares a breakdown of ingredients, with the gel-like cleanser offering licorice root and green tea extract for their brightening and conditioning properties. It’s very soothing, making it the perfect wake-up cleanser in the morning.

When massaged into the skin it gains that more creamy milk-like texture which earned it its name. While it may not be my favourite makeup remover, I do enjoy it as my second step in a double cleanse to feel fresh faced and ready for bed at the end of the day.

Next I used the BYOMA Brightening Serum, which is £12.99, and has already racked up more than 100 five star reviews on the Boots website.

One shopper said: “Love this little product - works fab alongside the moisturiser as well. No smell to it and my skin looked glowing and healthy after a few weeks of use.”

And another added: “I’ve been using this in conjunction with their moisturiser for a few weeks. I’ve got slightly sensitive skin that has reacted to serums before, especially with hyaluronic acid but this has been a dream to use. My skin feels super hydrated and genuinely looks brighter, a massive bonus is it’s such good value for money!”

This serum is said to ‘significantly improve skin’s tone and texture for even, glowing results’, and glowing I was. It’s a fairly lightweight formula that absorbs quickly into the skin, but offered visibly radiant results that made my skin look glowy rather than just oily or shiny.

The main ingredients include niacinamide to brighten and even tone and hyaluronic acid to intensely hydrate, working to block out environmental pollutants that can damage the skin.

Because of how quickly it sinks into the skin, it means you don’t have to worry about starting your skincare routine an hour before you need to do your makeup, you can just throw it on and get ready.

To finish off my skincare session, I used the BYOMA Moisturising Gel Cream, which comes in a super cute pink bottle for £11.99. The product used the BYOMA tri-ceramide complex alongside brightening niacinamide and green tea extract to offer soothing results.

I have quite dry skin anyway, and with a collection of 12-15 moisturisers, this is the one I find myself using most frequently at the moment.

The texture is quite balmy so feels amazing when you slather it onto the skin, and makeup sits on it nicely without pilling, which is what we love to see in a moisturiser.

Overall, there’s a list as long as my arm of reasons I love this range, starting with its affordability and appearance. The bottles are oh-so Insta-worthy without breaking the bank, which gets a big thumbs up from me.

I love the fact that they’re fragrance-free and stripped back, really living up to the no filters, no fluff motto, making them easy to use, perfect for beginners and ideal for creating a personalised skincare routine to suit your needs by mix and matching products.

You can find the whole BYOMA range on the Boots website, where you can snap up a new skincare routine on a three for two offer.
