This year, M&S is celebrating 70 years of the Queen on the throne with a limited edition range for patriotic foodies.
The collectable items include an all-butter British shortbread tin for £5, the rotating musical shortbread tin for £8, Platinum Jubilee ale for £3, strawberry gin liqueur for £16 and sparkling Strawberry & Elderflower Presse for £2.40.
I don’t think I’ve ever spent £8 on a tin of biscuits, especially a tin that makes music, but M&S have pushed the boat out this year. The commemorative tin rotates with a push and plays the national anthem ‘God Save the Queen’, which is a pretty nice touch to say the least.

The posh tin of biscuits contains 18 different shortbread biscuits, nine all-butter flavoured shortbread and nine strawberries and cream. Considering I paid £8 for the tin, I was pleased that there was a good amount of shortbread on offer and not just a few measly pieces.
I’m a big lover of biscuits, especially dunked in tea, so the shortbread was a big yes from me. In terms of aesthetic, the tin looked really lovely, the musical element was a special touch which clearly bumped up the price - but I wasn’t complaining.

I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of shortbread, after all, shortbread is just shortbread, but since this was 'extra special' I was hoping it would taste amazing. After one big crunchy bite, I can confirm, I was in biscuit heaven.
The shortbread was perfectly buttery and not too dry which can often be the case with some brands, either that or incredibly crumbly and messy. After trying the buttery shortbread, it was onto the main event in my opinion, the strawberries and cream flavour.
Strawberries and cream is a tough flavour to master, but M&S have seriously got it perfected. The shortbread was absolutely delicious and very moreish (which is not good for the diet at all!)
Would I ever spent £8 on a tin of biscuits again? Probably not. But the commemorative touch and music was unique and fitting for the occasion, not to mention the extremely addictive shortbread.
