I tried Bristol’s best rated fry-up to see if it lives up to the hype

When it comes to a classic full English breakfast, Bristol has tons of options to choose from. The city is packed with cafes, pubs and restaurants all offering some version of the British classic.

But Top Nosh in Kingswood is deemed to be one of the best, if not the best, place in Bristol to get your morning fry-up. Customers are spoilt for choice with the menu which includes everything from a mega breakfast to a breakfast omelette, and of course there are veggie options.

With a 4.6 out of 5 star rating Top Nosh is highly rated on Google with most reviewers giving praise to both the food and the staff. I decided I wanted to see what all the hype was all about so I headed down to the café in Kingswood to give it a try myself.

I will say I was surprised the venue was located on a mainly residential road, away from the hustle and bustle of the main road. Walking in, it was a really nice place, the perfect little local greasy food café. And I was presented with the option of sitting in or having my food to go.

As fry-ups are the main thing on their breakfast menu I went for one of them but the question was what size did I want to go for. With four sizes on offer - mega, large, medium or small - and then the option to add sides, I decided I was going to try the medium breakfast. It seemed like a good size with a good variety of different offerings and I also got a coffee to help wash it down.

The plate that was put down in front of me looked good and only cost me £5.95, with my coffee costing £2.40. I was given two slices of bacon, two hash browns, one fried egg, some beans, one sausage and some fried bread as well as buttered bread.

I found the food was good, the bacon was great quality, thick cut slices - better than what you buy from your local supermarket. The egg was fried really well too, the yolk was still perfectly runny while the white was cooked just right. The one thing on the plate that didn’t take my fancy too much was the sausage, it wasn’t one of those nice meaty ones and was softer than how I liked mine cooked.

Overall the plate was actually really good and definitely filled me up, and the coffee helped wash my food down just right. Leaving I can completely understand what all the hype is about. The staff are so friendly and the food is really good, the perfect cafe for breakfast.
