I tried Asian fast food chain Jollibee and didn't like half the menu

I'd heard of Jollibee quite a while ago, I didn't know much about it but I did know that the chicken was meant to be incredibly crispy.

It's a massively popular chain in Asia and has recently started to spread out across England, with more and more stores popping up and introducing Brits to spaghetti as a side to fried chicken.

I'd been curious about it for a while before I got round to trying some bits from the menu, and some items left me thoroughly disappointed.

There are definitely things you should get round to trying, such as the spicy chicken burger and the fries, but some I would definitely avoid.

Spicy Chicken Burger Meal £4.99

Jollibee is known for it's crispy chicken, and there are two chicken burgers that gather a lot of attention on the menu.

We opted for the spicy and were impressed, the sauce does have a zing to it and the lettuce seemed quite fresh.

It came with fries (which were really good, although could use more salt) and a pineapple juice.

This was probably the best thing on the menu and I would probably order this if I went back.

Spaghetti Joy - £4.39

I'd seen this on every advertisement, the famous Spaghetti Joy.

I found it a little strange as a concept, as I don't associate pasta with fast food burgers but it is a classic that is synonymous with the venue.

So we had to try it - it's not amazing.

It's simple and not all that exciting and not something we would have ever gotten again. And it looks nothing like it does on the pictures, instead being quite unappetising.

Jolly Hotdog - £2.39

The hotdog had cheese and some sort of sauce on top and had a really strong cheese taste.

Despite it being fairly average it was an item that my friend couldn't resist going back to, although she found it underwhelming she insisted that it was 'good though'.

Rating: 3/5

Chicken Joy - £1.99

We got a piece of the famous crispy chicken and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't greasy and the crunch level was ideal.

It could use more seasoning in the batter to make it a more enjoyable experience but it's a good alternative to KFC.

Rating: 4/5

Yumburger with Cheese - £2.49

It's a burger, if you want a burger it will do the job but it's nothing ground breaking.

I started to notice this was generally the case with these items, which were slightly less tasty than McDonalds.

Rating: 2/5

Chocolate Sundae - £1.70

This was okay, it tasted like a basic fast food ice cream with some chocolate sauce.

It could benefit from a bigger range of toppings, as coconut seems to be the only additional topping which isn't to everyone's tastes.

Rating: 2/5

Sriracha Chicken Loaded Fries - £3.99

I really liked the fries, although they would definitely be better if they had more salt as even with the perfect level of crisp they were a little bit bland.

The chicken tenders were nice but I found the sauce made it all quite soggy.

Rating: 3/5

Asian Chicken Rice Bowl - £4.99

The slaw was tasty, as was the sauce, rice and chicken. With the sauce being added in at home and the rice being wrapped before you eat the texture didn't suffer.

It was one of the better menu items but not as nice as the chicken burgers and fries combination.

Rating: 3/5

Steak and rice - £3.99

When I saw this meal, I genuinely felt a little bit upset about trying it.

To say it looked unappetising was an understatement, and the burger 'steaks' looked sad to say the least.

But it was surprisingly tasty. Texturally it definitely has room for improvement but it actually works quite well.

If you're craving something stodgy this might be the one for you.

Rating: 3/5

I felt quite tired after trying this food, it's quite stodgy and probably best when you're looking for something greasy to fill yourself up with.
