I tried a Very Christmas jumper but matching with my dog ended in the giggles

You can't beat a Christmas jumper, in fact the best festive jumpers are often the worst ones.

Who doesn't love to surprise friends and colleagues and even strangers with an outlandish jumper? Many retailers now also offer family Christmas jumpers so the whole clan can match one another over the festive period. Very, like many others, have gone one step further and included matching dog jumpers too.

I thought I'd try Very's Christmas family range to test their jumper sizing, quality and how festive they feel. I don't have children but I do have a miniature Dachshund called Evie and I couldn't wait to get her a matching jumper.

I opted for the 'I Love Christmas' family jumper set, which features an all-over fair isle style prints, including "I Love Xmas" slogan and Santa patterns. The set includes a woman's and man's jumper, a kids jumper and a matching dog jumper.

The order arrived quickly and the first thing I noticed was how bright the colours are. When I opened the jumper up the colours stood out immediately.

The traditional red, green and blue colours give the jumper, which is priced at £17.50 down from £25, the perfect retro feel and I couldn't wait to try it on. It's unquestionably a Christmas jumper.

I ordered a size 10 jumper and it was a great fit, not too tight on the arms and not too baggy either. I've always struggled with finding a fit that's true to size when it comes to jumpers, especially when buying online but this size is perfect.

The biggest flaw though here, unfortunately is the jumper fit for dogs, as pictured above. The dog jumper as part of the 'I Love Christmas' family jumper set states that the fit is "one size - ideal for smaller dogs."

It's also described as a stretchy knit, for easy on and off use but in my opinion they've taken the word 'stretch' to the extreme here. Evie is a miniature Dachshund so she is quite small and normally fits in jumpers that are either an extra-small or small fit.

This jumper is probably suited more for a Spaniel or a medium sized dog, and is absolutely not ideal for any dog that's a miniature size, it was honestly laughable trying it on her.

As much as I saw the funny side it was disappointing as I was looking forward to getting a jumper to match with Evie, so I would be cautious if you're looking to buy this set and get the dog jumper too. Luckily, the jumper I tried on for myself is true to size but Evie won't be able to wear hers unless I try and shrink it in the wash.

The dog jumper is priced at £8 too so I would only buy if your dog is bigger than a miniature breed. However, both jumpers have a high quality feel to them and the knitwear is quite thick which is great for these freezing temperatures. Very have various styles in their family Christmas jumper range, shop all of them here.
