I tried a small Jamaican takeaway in Wollaton and the portions were huge

There’s nothing better than finding a new takeaway to add to your list of favourites. We sent Community Reporter, Keimae Blake to an authentic Jamaican takeaway that she can’t praise enough…

Most of us love a takeaway every now and then and if there’s one thing Nottingham has a lot of, it’s places to dine. I tried a Jamaican takeaway in Wollaton that sells - as my mum calls it - ‘proper yard food’ and although Wollaton isn’t exactly close to where I live, I will definitely be making the trip again.

All Flavaz sits in between a bookies and the Hope Charity shop on 119 Middleton Boulevard. The small shop has a bright yellow sign above it and inside, you’ll find whatever you fancy.

Whether it be jerk chicken, fish, mutton, ackee and saltfish (the list goes on) All Flavaz has it. I knew what I wanted before I even arrived in the store and thankfully, they had it.

There’s nothing worse than knowing what you want from a takeaway only to find they’ve run out or don’t have the food available. Greeted by two lovely members of staff, I ordered Oxtail with white rice, a side of veg and a fried dumpling.

As I waited, a customer came in and ordered a vegetable patty and I couldn’t help but notice the slush machine behind the counter. With the Bluecoat Wollaton campus not too far away, I wondered if the store had a queue of school children at the end of the day waiting to pay for their slushies to takeaway.

Once my food was ready, I also ordered a grape-flavoured BIGGA drink and altogether, I paid £16.70 - which isn’t bad for an authentic big portion that could be split into lunch and dinner.

My Oxtail was well seasoned and slowly cooked to perfection. My dumpling was golden, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

I’ve never been a massive fan of rice and peas but I do like white rice which is covered in Oxtail gravy and veg.

If you ever do happen to go to Wollaton, at All Flavaz, you can get a wholesome, hearty meal and be left satisfied. My food and experience in store gets a 10/10 from me.

Next time I visit All Flavaz, I'll have to try their jerk chicken burger.
