A good carpet cleaner is a household essential and perfect for giving your floors a much needed refresh.
On the hunt for a product that would give my carpets a professional-standard clean, I decided to try out the Numatic Henry Wash HWV370 Cylinder Carpet Cleaner. I have never used a Henry product before, having stuck with my trusty Dyson vacuum cleaner, however, I was intrigued by this product.
Something that drew me to the carpet cleaner was its versatility. The product can be used to clean and shampoo carpets as well as being ideal for cleaning hard floors, upholstery and cars. It can even be used to unblock the sink, and comes with a full wash kit, a 10m long cable and can be purchased from retailers including Currys, Argos and Amazon.
My first impression of the product when unboxing it was that it seemed like it would be a little tricky to assemble. You get a leaflet with images that show you how to put it together, although with no written steps, this was slightly hard to follow as you relied on interpreting the images.
The product comes with carpet cleaner that you add in the machine along with five litres of cold water. You get a 500ml bottle included with the machine, which is enough for 12 normal washes. Once full, the machine is quite heavy so it can be hard to lift it once it is full of water.
I decided to test the product out in my living room, opting to trial the carpet cleaner function out on my rug and carpets. It was easy to operate the product, you simply pull the black lever on the handle to dispense the cleaning solution, meaning you can use as much as you need to.
To get the best clean, you pull the handle towards you slowly, which ensures you get an even distribution of solution on the carpet. My initial worries about the machine seeming too heavy were not an issue, as the Henry Wash's long cable and manoeuvrable wheels made it easy to navigate the floor space and allowed me to reach every corner of the room.
Thanks to the clear nozzle, you can visibly see the cleaning solution coming out onto the carpet, which is good for judging the amount of solution you are using.
The solution itself smelled pleasant and filled the room with a fresh aroma that is a definite draw to the product. You really feel like the carpet is getting a good refresh and can see it doing its job.
Once I had cleaned the carpet, it was time to dry it by removing some of the excess moisture. To do this, I switched the carpet cleaner off so no more solution came through and turned on the dry mode. Again, I went over the carpet by pulling the handle towards me.
Although this didn't dry the carpet, it did take away some of the excess moisture which was good and helped the carpets to dry quicker.
In terms of the end result, the carpets and rug were left visibly cleaner. I was especially impressed with the rug, as this was left looking refreshed and the cleaner really helped to lift it up so it looked almost like new. It definitely gave the carpets a new lease of life and you could see the results almost instantly.
After emptying the product at the end and discarding of the dirty water, it was easy to clean the product as you simply rinse it with cold water. A downside of the long cord can be seen when storing the product away. It proved to be difficult to wrap it around the cable storage due to there being so much of it.
The carpets did take quite a while to dry after I cleaned them though, but this is arguably a small price to pay for the benefits of having such clean carpets.
Overall, I was pleased with the results. The carpets and rug were left clean and refreshed, and, in my opinion, the product is well worth it. I do think that the product could be improved by allowing for a dry use option to enable it to double up as an everyday vacuum cleaner, as this would enhance the versatility even further and allow you to get more use out of it.
I would give this product a rating of three out of five, as I was impressed with the way it left the carpet looking clean and smelling fresh. To improve, it would be great if the product doubled up as a dry cleaner too, as this would mean you could get more out of it. I also feel that the instruction leaflet could be improved too, as the lack of details made it slightly hard to follow.
Overall, I am impressed with the Henry Wash and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality carpet cleaner that delivers exactly what it promises.
