I tried a garlic naan bread burrito filled with chicken tikka - and it was crazy good

Walking around the streets of Phibsborough it was hard to avoid the huge sign advertising a new loaded naan special in Thindi, a new Indian restaurant owned by Camile.

Curiosity got the best of me and with the burrito being advertised for just €8.50, I thought it’d be an affordable dinner. There was an option for a chicken tikka naan or a vegan aloo tikki naan.

The dish is basically a typical naan bread stuffed with chicken curry and folded in the manner of a burrito. The fresh naan was packed with flavour. It was filled with butter chicken masala, pilau rice, salad, Thindi’s creamy mint sauce and coriander onion garnish.

First thoughts were that the burrito was immensely colourful and varied. It brought a modern twist to the butter chicken and naan.

To be fair, it was much easier to eat the food wrapped in tinfoil rather than eating the butter chicken and naan separately on a plate - which is perfect for messy eaters. It also worked out cheaper than ordering the popular and normal meal.

There are no beans, salsa or guacamole - which are typical in the Mexican themed dish. But for me, I preferred it, it meant that the meal was less soggy. The first bite was a bit of a revelation and it’s most definitely not a dish to be inhaled, it’s one to be enjoyed.

The Mexican favourite with an Indian twist was definitely going to be a hit or miss - and there’s no doubt that I’ll be going back for more. It was truly tasty and filling.

For those wondering about the vegan option, it contains a crispy Aloo tikki and vegetable pakora filling, covered in Vegan butter masala sauce, pilau rice and salad.

The Thindi restaurant chain was launched recently by Camile. It has a modern take on Indian cuisine. It’s for a new generation of foodie with authentic flavours of the indulgent subcontinent culture.
