'I travelled from Dublin to UK to try famous Binley Mega Chippy - and it wasn't what I expected'

Dublin Foodie Ryan Gaffney, better known on social media as “King Gaffo Food”, travelled all the way to the UK to try a chipper made famous by TikTok.

Binley Mega Chippy, located in Coventry, has gone viral for its catchy tune on TikTok in recent weeks with hundreds of visitors travelling long journeys to check out the chipper.

Now, it was Ryan’s turn to travel 438km to try TikTok’s favourite chippy.

Ryan told Dublin Live all about his experience.

“I knew I had to go over and see what the big fuss was about," he said.

Ryan flew from Dublin Airport to Birmingham and spent the night in a hotel. The next day he got a train to Coventry and then jumped into a taxi that brought him straight to the famous chip shop.

“When I arrived there were no queues. There was one group of lads. Then about ten people showed up when I was leaving. I went on Monday so people would be in school and work," said Ryan.

“The taxi man waited for me outside while I got my food, took a few pictures and brought me back to the train station while I tucked into the grub in the back seat.

“I ordered a battered sausage with chips, a chip batch (a bun with chips), a small curry sauce, a bottle of coke and of course a Binley Mega Chippy T-shirt. It cost me just under £18 which isn’t bad going."

So was the food any good? Ryan had a very short response: "No, it was honestly brutal."

However, it was all negative. “To be honest the food wasn’t great but for the whole experience it was definitely worth the trip.”
