'I thought I was going to die' Healthy mum who survived coronavirus recalls heartbreaking thoughts in intensive care

A 39-year-old Covid-19 survivor has recalled thinking that she was 'going to die in ICU' after being intubated and put to sleep.

Tara Jane Langston, 39, went viral after she filmed herself in an intensive care unit in Hillingdon Hospital, West London.

In the video, she said the virus made it feel like there was 'glass in her lungs', and begged people not to 'take any chances'.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, the mother-of-two made the heartbreaking admission that she thought she would never see her daughters again.

She said: "I was in hospital for nine days, I was in ICU for three days. I returned home, which was the best Mother's Day present ever, I returned home to my family on Mother's Day.

"Looking back at it, it makes my heart skip a beat because I actually thought I was going to die at that point in ICU.

"I was told I was going to be intubated, and I didn't know what that meant.

"When they explained that I was going to be put to sleep and sedated so that my body could fight this, because my body was exhausted, I just thought 'I'm never going to wake up, I'm not going to see my girls grow up'.

"It was very traumatic."

Tara then reminded people that she was fit and healthy before getting the virus, saying: "This is a virus for everyone.

"It doesn't matter what gender you are, it doesn't matter what colour you are or what God you believe in. Nobody is immune to this.

"If you get it, I hope you get mild symptoms, which is the case for most people."

She added: "However, if you get it like me, and I don't know why I got it so bad, and I'm hearing the news about the 21-year-old that passed away which was so devastating.

"If you get it bad, I can assure you that it will be one of the most traumatic experiences of your life, because every time you take a breath, it's like glass.

"Your body gets so exhausted that you can't breathe, so take your breath for granted. It's not until you can't breathe that you realise how precious it is."

Tara is now recovering from the virus at her home in Middlesex.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
