"I thought he was a bit odd": Neighbours disturbed after 'secretive' paedophile outed on playground posters

Neighbours of a convicted paedophile have expressed their shock after he was outed by vigilantes who posted his photograph and full address on a pole at a children's play centre.

The poster has stunned locals with several expressing dismay that such a person is living so close by. The homemade poster invites people to google the man's name and contact local police with any concerns.

The man, who has not been named for legal reasons, and lives in the picturesque village of Calderdale in West Yorkshire was convicted for five years after his offences came to light, YorkshireLive reports.

A neighbour of the man said he was 'appalled' when he discovered what he had done. He said he contacted West Yorkshire Police with further information but felt he had been "brushed off."

He said: "I couldn't believe it when I found he was living next door to me. I thought he was a bit odd as he never seemed to have any visitors and rarely went out at all.

"Occasionally, he would ask if he could borrow my ladders and he once came into our home to use our landline but other than that he kept himself to himself.

"I would pass parcels on to him and that's when I realised he was not as he seemed. He had been slightly altering his surname so as not to alert people but one day an official parcel arrived and I Googled it and suddenly it all made sense.

"I contacted the police as I was concerned about aspects of his behaviour but they didn't seem very interested and I got brushed off. People are not very happy but his landlord doesn't seem to mind as long as he keeps paying the rent so there's not a lot you can do. I've heard that his picture and details were posted at a children's play centre but it was nothing to do with me."

Another woman, a mother-of-three, said: "Everyone is very shocked about this. Nobody had any idea as I understand he was very secretive and then suddenly it has all come out after he has been here all this time.

"I believe there is one family in the village who are particularly upset and it has left a sour taste in everyone's mouth." When YorkshireLive knocked on the man's door there was no response, although there was a note saying Cold Callers were not welcome.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police work alongside partner agencies to monitor released offenders in the community to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place."
