I think I have found the sandwich shop to rival Subway

It was the queue forming outside of Alexanders whenever I passed that first sparked my interest to try it.

Lunchtime had been and gone and the sandwich shop Alexanders in Crosby was still bustling. I knew this could only be a good sign.

Admittedly, I tend to stick to what I know with sandwiches. I can't remember the last time I changed up my meal deal selection or Subway order.

But after visiting Alexanders, this has all changed and I find myself spoilt for choice whenever I decide to treat myself to one of their delicious menu items. The first thing I noticed on my first visit to the sandwich shop was the wide range of fresh ingredients placed neatly behind a glass counter at the front of the shop.

The variety still takes me by surprise whenever I visit. Everything from deli meats to different types of cheese and pasta. With an extensive salad counter and fresh ingredients all available, it allows an endless combination of sandwich fillings. Perfect for those who like to try new things.

Alexanders quickly became mine and my boyfriend's favourite lunch spot. The Louisiana panini is what initially got me hooked. A mouth watering combination of chicken, mozzarella, bacon and BBQ sauce. After paying the price of £5.80 for this I had high expectations, it's safe to say my expectations were surpassed.

The panini proved difficult to finish due to the size of it. The flavour was off the scale with the mozzarella melting perfectly over the other ingredients, complimented by a lashing of BBQ sauce. They couldn't have fitted anymore ingredients into the panini if they tried. Certainly worth £5.80 of anybody's' money.

My boyfriend always opts for the regular Chinese chicken pasta mixed with bacon bits and mayo. Once again, the portion size is enormous. It comes in a clear plastic container bursting to the brim. He is yet to find pasta from another sandwich shop that compares. He views it as a bonus that he can't finish it in one sitting as he always finishes it off later on in the day. This pasta cost £5.40 for a regular. Not the most affordable pasta we have ever come across but with the portion size, it was worth it.

The selection of sandwiches caters for everybody. Meat eaters, vegetarians and seafood lovers. Selections such as salt and pepper chicken, brie and black grape and prawn and avocado are available. Many combinations that would not be found in your standard sandwich shop. All for reasonable prices too.

What sets this sandwich shop apart from many I have visited is the menu. It isn't limited to just sandwiches and customers can indulge in toasted paninis, breakfast barms, pasta or salad if they prefer.

Aside from the delicious food on offer this small business also boasts an eye-catching milkshake counter. Just the thing to wash any food down. With plenty of chocolate and sweet options painted across hanging blackboards, there is no shortage of choice. It adds to the appeal of Alexanders and fits well with the already sleek and modern interior.

Not only can you treat yourself to a milkshake at this sandwich shop, a selection of smoothies are also available. Perfect if you enjoy the healthier option. It really is the best of both worlds.

I am yet to try their milkshakes or smoothies but it is definitely on my to-do list the next time I am in Crosby. Based just off food, I would say Alexanders certainly gives Subway a run for its money.

Alexanders sandwich shop can be found at 2 Endbutt Lane. Crosby.
