A mom says she recently bought her kids a collectible line of Capri-Suns. Now she’s convinced the Capri-Sun Moon Pouches made them sick.
She’s warning other parents not to buy the Moon Punch line of the popular children’s drink.
In a TikTok with 247,000 views, Tiffany (@tiffandyydyy195) lays out what happened.
“PSA to all parents: please do not buy your kids these,” she says as a box of Capri-Sun Moon Punch appears on-screen.
“I bought my kids these two days ago and they’ve literally been sick having runs, throwing up,” Tiffany continues.
She alleges that she initially thought their food was causing the symptoms, which are common to people experiencing food poisoning.
So she tested it out, she says.
“It’s literally these Capri-Suns. Please do not buy your kids these. They’re no good,” she says at the TikTok’s conclusion.
Food-borne illness
Every year, millions of people experience food poisoning. They don’t always realize it. In fact, many sicknesses people attribute to a stomach bug or flu are actually food poisoning.
The symptoms of both are similar and can include vomiting, diarrhea, and fever.
Healthline reports that food poisoning typically causes more severe symptoms but resolves more quickly than a stomach bug. Usually food poisoning is mild, if deeply unpleasant. But food poisoning can be quite severe.
It’s often difficult, if not impossible, to know for sure which malady you’ve contracted. That’s part of the reason why it’s notoriously hard to bring a legal claim over food poisoning.
Even if you’re certain it was food poisoning, establishing what caused it can be an uphill battle.
Attorneys recommend saving the packaging of items you think may have sickened you. If there are leftovers, save those. You could also write down all the things you ate before getting sick and find out if anyone else ate the same thing and also became ill.
Could Capri-Sun be the culprit?
It’s certainly possible that the Capri-Sun Moon Pouches caused Tiffany’s kids’ illnesses. It’s also entirely possible they simply had a stomach bug or got sick from something else they ate.
Without further testing or information, there’s no way to be sure.
People who commented on Tiffany’s TikTok are divided. Some feel that a mother’s intuition and observations are sufficient evidence. Others aren’t so sure.
“And how did u test it out? Because that sounds odd” one skeptic said.
Several claim they’ve recently consumed Capri-Sun Moon Pouches and experienced no issues.
“I picked up a box of those recently for my grandkids and they drink all of them and the kids were fine,” one woman wrote.
A few commenters brought up a 2022 recall of Capri-Suns. That recall was voluntarily implemented by Kraft Heinz.
There is no recall on the Moon Pouches, which Kraft Heinz launched earlier this year. The beverage comes in glow-in-the-dark pouches and was announced in honor of the total lunar eclipse.
