I test pillows for a living — 3 reasons why the Purple GridCloud is my new favorite

TG bedding writer sleeping on the Purple GridCloud pillow.

Sleeping among the clouds is the feeling I always associate with pillows but the truth is they don't all deliver that fluffy comfort. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and ever since becoming a bedding reviewer I’ve not only had a chance to test multiple pillows but also to analyze why they feel the way they do.

I’ve tried some of the best pillows of 2025, made from premium materials and fabrics to create a range of feels targeting specific sleep concerns. But it's still cloud-like comfort I'm after, which is why I was delighted when the latest pillow from Purple felt like that opening line — “sleeping among the clouds”.

Yes, it’s a $149 pillow but thanks to the Labor Day mattress sales you can save up to 10% with a bundle discount. Truth be told, the savings aren't huge but if you’re a combination sleeper like me, the Purple GridCloud could be worth the splurge. Let me explain why this is my new favorite pillow for side sleepers...

3 reasons why the Purple GridCloud is my new fave

1. The perfect loft for side and back sleepers

Pillow loft or height is one of my three non-negotiables to consider when in the market for your ideal nighttime head-rest.

A mid-loft to high-loft pillow is best suited for someone who, like me, shifts from back to side sleeping. And the Purple GridCloud can rival the best pillows for side sleepers, easily bridging the gap between your ear and shoulder.

I also found that if I shifted position during the night, the pillow remained supportive, helping keep my neck and spine in alignment. This results in a comfortable night's sleep without aches, pains or discomfort in the morning.

2. Plush comfort

While the design and overall look are similar to the Purple Harmony pillow, the GridCloud takes a different approach to plushness, using silicone-coated fibers to deliver down-like comfort without the feeling of sinking through your pillow.

The fill works alongside the brand's signature honeycomb GelFlex-Grid, to essentially contour to your form, providing pressure relief at the ear and head so you can drift off into a peaceful slumber.

In my opinion, this unique combination largely proves Purple's claim that the GridCloud feels like "sleeping on a cloud designed specifically for you."

3. Consistent support

No matter the nature of materials used or the premium construction, many pillows flatten overnight, and the resulting neck strain is the last thing a side sleeper needs. (Plus endless plumping can get frustrating.)

In my experience testing the newly launched GridCloud, you never have to worry about it going flat. It remains plump and cloud-like all night.

In fact, you'll rarely have to remember to fluff it at all, as the GelFlex Grid paired with the silicone-coated down-alternative fibers provide long-lasting responsive support.

In simple terms, it feels like 1000 hands are gently holding you as you float away in dreamland...
