'I taste tested a Japanese snack box - it had surprising flavours but I couldn't swallow one thing'

With cherry blossom season a big hit on Instagram, one thing that stands out as part of it are Japanese snacks.

Journalist Jada Jones said she is always curious about what candied cherry blossoms actually taste like, even if they can't be found in her local supermarket, The Mirror reported.

"When I got the chance to try Sakuraco's Moonlit Sakura box, which heavily features cherry blossom snacks in pretty shades of pink I jumped at it. The box arrived really quickly and as I opened it up I couldn't help but notice how aesthetically pleasing it was," she reported.

Each box consists of a wide range of 20 snacks and a dish, in this case it was a small tea glass.

The box had a wide variety of pretty pink treats that she assumed would be sweet on her tongue, however, it wasn't quite the case for all of them.

The Mame Mochi are known as having a 'subtle hint of saltiness' but she described them as "subtle as a sledgehammer" adding that she couldn't bring herself to swallow it.

"It wasn't all bad though, with salty snacks being some people's preferred option. The cream gaufrettes were absolutely delicious, they were both sweet and floral without it being overpowering which made it one of my favourite items," she wrote.

She highlighted the Ichigo Roll, which was a cake with a checkerboard design and strawberry flavour that was both "soft to the touch and sweet on my tongue."

She described the Gengi Pie as a light crisp biscuit that tasted nice with coffee.

"There were some snacks that really were not to my taste at all, in particular the more savoury options didn't resonate with me as I personally have more of a sweet tooth, and texturally there were a few surprises that I certainly found interesting.

"I probably wouldn't subscribe for the annual subscription of these but I think they're a fun one off to share with friends or a great gift option if you've got a friend who particularly loves Japanese snacks," Jada concluded in her review.
