‘I stopped eating them’: Miami woman boils cup of Maruchan ramen noodles. Then something slithers out of the pack

A woman loses her appetite as she finishes making Maruchan ramen noodles. She shows the gross culprit in the drain of her kitchen sink.

In a video with over 12,000 views, TikToker Das (@prettydasai) says she doesn’t frequently eat ramen noodles. However, she decides to cook a pack after boiling some eggs.

“So I’m boiling [the noodles] or whatever. I go to dump out water so I can pour some chicken broth in there,” she says. “Why the [expletive] did this big ass…bro, it looks like a…what is that?”

What was in her ramen noodles?

She pushes the plastic covering on the drain to show an egg-white-like blob of goo that came out of her noodles.

“Bro, I was so scared. I just dumped it in there as fast as [expletive]. But it looks like the shape of an egg,” she says.

On-screen text reads, “Watch what you eat omgggg I’m shook.” She continues in the caption, “Does this happen all the time??? What is this?”

In the comments, viewers guess what the mysterious blob could be.

“It looks like that waxy film that bubbles up on them clumped in one to me,” one writes.

“It’s wax from the noodles. I make sure to spoon the wax out while boiling,” another says.

However, the idea that ramen noodles are coated with wax is a common myth, according to USA Today. Instead, ramen noodles are frequently covered in palm oil, which can give the noodles a waxy look.

“Looks like starch, btw, you could boil the noodles in the broth, you don’t have to waste so much water,” a third adds.

One commenter even suggests it could be a “scoby,” which is a rubbery, mushroom-like disc made of bacteria and yeast that can appear in fermented products like kombucha, according to Brew Dr. Kombucha. However, these typically don’t develop on dry, processed foods like ramen, as the organisms require sugar to develop.

Did the strange blob deter her from eating more ramen?

In the comments, Das clarifies that she threw away the rest of the Maruchan ramen pack. Other viewers say her gross discovery deters them from eating ramen noodles, too.

“Ive never seen this before, but i would throw the whole box away,” one writes.

“If it comes in a box or bag with a barcode ots trash anyway. dont eat it,” another says.

“Those packs can make things funky. I prefer cans if they have them,” a third comments.
