The revelation that Gordon Brown and Tony Blair "still talk regularly" will come as a surprise to some, writes Haroon Siddique.
The picture most often painted of the former prime minister's relationship with his then chancellor was that the two were rarely on speaking terms at all.
While the reality was probably a little different, their relationship seemed fraught at best - and all the more so after Barry Cox, a family friend of the Blairs, told Andrew Rawnsley during an interview for a Channel 4 documentary, he was sure that Blair had thought about sacking Brown
But all such rivalries appear to have been displaced after the new premier told NBC Nightly News of his contact with Mr Blair.
"We still talk regularly, but he has got a very, very important job to do."
Unfortunately, Mr Brown did not reveal the subject of their conversations.
Has he been asking Mr Blair for advice? Or perhaps he called to tell him: "Tony, I don't like your casinos policy so I'm getting rid of that. And while we're at it, I don't really think Asbos are really working either"?
Or maybe he just asked him for Charlotte Church's number....
