'I stared at the ticket for so long': Canberra woman wins $100,000 on scratchie

It's three times a charm for Canberra, with a local woman winning $100,000 on a scratchie, less than a fortnight after two fellow national capital residents won millions of dollars in Lotto draws.

The winning $5 Crosswords ticket was purchased from the Cooleman Court Newsagency.

The local woman said on Thursday morning she was still struggling to believe her good fortune.

"It just feels a little bit surreal to be honest," she reportedly told lottery officials.

"I buy scratchies regularly but you never expect it to happen to you.

"It took me a little while to realise I'd won such a huge prize.

"I stared at the ticket for so long. There was a lot of disbelief. It's only starting to feel real now.

"It was very, very exciting. I couldn't be happier."

The win came after a Canberra mum and recent retiree won more than $10 million in an OzLotto draw on June 8, while a Canberra dad won more than $1 million in the Saturday Lotto draw on June 5. The woman bought her ticket online while the man bought his ticket from newsXpress Kippax Fair in Holt.

There is also likely someone in Canberra unaware they're $4.8 million richer with a lotto ticket purchased two months ago still unclaimed.

That winning ticket was purchased from a lottery stand at Westfield Woden, the Thistle Kiosk.

The lottery was drawn on April 8, and there was just one winning entry. The prize will be paid in installments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.

The latest Canberra winner said she'd love to splurge her $100,000 windfall on a big holiday.

"I am going to save it for now," she said.

"Maybe I'll go on a big holiday when things open up a little more. One day I would love to go to Africa, but that's probably a little far off."

Cooleman Court Newsagency employee Nish Shah said the win marked a special milestone for the outlet.

"This is such great news," he said.

"This is the first top prize-winning ticket we've sold since the new ownership of the store.

"Congratulations to our winner. We are so happy for them."
