'I spent years buying baby clothes to make myself happy - now I'm pregnant'

A mum-to-be has revealed how she spent years preparing for having children by stocking up her baby closet full of kids' clothes long before she fell pregnant.

Tanisha Clay ( @tanishaclayy ) has spoken on TikTok about having always wanted children, and how one day she decided to allow herself the pleasure of looking at baby clothes before starting her own baby closet - now she's expecting her own little one.

The TikToker is encouraging other women who want children one day to do the same, promising nothing will go to waste as any unused items will always get passed onto friends and other expecting mums.

"Okay hear me out. If you're a girl who wants a baby one day, maybe not today, just one day, just hear me out, because I have a tip that is going to bring you joy and a lot less of a headache later," she told her followers.

"If you’re the kind of girl whose eyes light up when you walk past the baby section, let me just tell you why you should stop walking and go in."

Tanisha asked her followers whether they'd ever been to a baby shower and seen the mum-to-be opening present after present of newborn baby clothes, but what happens when the baby is too big to fit in the newborn clothing, she asked.

Instead, the mum-to-be came up with her own plan, which she started long before she fell pregnant herself, called the baby closet.

"Rule number one is that the item needs to be gender neutral," she explained. "Rule number two is that if it’s for a boy I need to be able to pair it with a bow to make it fit a girl."

Tanisha went on to say rule number three is that anything she can't use when she has her own child should be passed on to someone else at a baby shower.

"There’s actually a fourth rule in that it has to be sized three to 24 months. No newborn," she added.

Tanisha said she always shops baby clothes when they're in the sale, making the exception when she finds something that's just too cute to pass up.

"I do not purposely go looking for baby clothes, I let the baby clothes find me and it has brought me so much joy and anticipation while me and my husband are waiting for the right time to have a baby," she added.

The TikToker told her followers about the baby closet back in August last year, however she has since revealed that after a long time trying, she and her husband are now expecting their first baby. Huge congratulations Tanisha, and what a well dressed baby you will have.
