I spent a decade in Celtic's academy - I've just returned from a two-year injury

Former Celtic academy youngster Grant Savoury made his long-awaited return from injury on Saturday as Queen's Park drew 0-0 with Hamilton Academical.

The 24-year-old joined the Southside outfit in 2022 on a free transfer from Peterhead.

Savoury spent a decade in Celtic's academy. He signed up as a kid in 2010 and rose through the ranks, although he never made a competitive senior appearance.

He then left the club in 2020, before spending over a year out of football, and joined Peterhead in 2021. He impressed the club so much that Queen's Park then secured his services.

Savoury scored 14 goals and assisted five in his first year with Queen's, although in May 2023, he sustained a crucial ligament injury, from which he only returned yesterday.

It has been a long road to recovery for the forward: "It's great," he said [Queen's Park YouTube].

"It's been a long road, but I'm delighted to get the monkey off my back and get out on the pitch.

"All the boys have been very supportive, the coaching staff have been brilliant, the sports scientists and the physios.

"I'm happy to be back.

"The last few months, I've been getting stronger and fitter."

Queen's Park currently sit third bottom of the Scottish Championship with two games to go.

They are six points clear of Airdrieonians, who occupy a relegation play-off place, so are, barring a catastrophe, safe. They face Ayr United and Raith Rovers in their final two games of the campaign.
