'I secretly let my mum meet my new baby - my wife is so angry she's kicked me out'

It's no secret that relationships with in-laws can sometimes be stressful.

But for one man, it's destroying his relationship as his mother behaves horrendously towards his wife, who recently gave birth.

The mum has been so rude to the wife, she was eventually banned from the house - and from meeting their new baby girl.

But when the wife went to a doctor's appointment, the husband snuck his mum in to meet the tot.

His mum refused to leave and so the wife found out she'd been at the house and with the baby against her wishes.

Understandably, she's furious.

"My mom is a nightmare and she's always disrespecting people's boundaries while also being entitled. She never liked my wife, not for any serious reason other than the fact that I got married and she couldn't stand seeing me moving away from her," he wrote on Reddit.

"My wife gave birth three weeks ago to our healthy baby girl. My mom insisted she wanted to be in the delivery room but my wife only wanted me and her mom in there but my mom was on the hospital lobby screaming about how she deserves to experience the birth of her grandchild.

"Whenever my mom visited our house she would always nitpick everything and judge my wife for being a horrible housewife and claimed she'd be a bad mom as well. Since those remarks my wife has lost her temper and doesn't want my mom to visit again and I understand why, nobody would like to be humiliated in their own house."

Reddit users said he should do a better job of sticking up for his wife (Getty Images/iStockphoto)

His wife made an allowance for the mum to come over just once to meet the baby - but when she did, she immediately snarked about the porch being dirty.

The wife "lost her temper" and totally banned her mother-in-law from coming over ever again, and from meeting the three-week-old baby.

"My wife had a doctors appointment yesterday and I'd stay home with the baby. I saw this as a chance to invite my mom over to see the baby as long as she kept it a secret. She came over and I told her we have roughly two hours before my wife comes back," continued the man.

"My mom then wouldn't leave no matter how many times I tried to convince her. My wife came home and saw my mom there cuddling the baby and she had a full mental breakdown and started screaming at me and her and she told her to get the f**k off the house.

"I told my wife to shut the f**k up and calm down and it's also my house and my kid and if I want my mom to meet my f***in kid at my f***in house she can't forbid me from doing it and she has no right to kick my mom out. That led to her kicking me out too and now I'm staying at my parent's until my wife calms down."

The general consensus in the comment section was that the man was wholly in the wrong, and should've respected his wife's wishes about her baby.

Many added that he should do a better job of sticking up for his wife - and that he was totally wrong to have told her to "shut the f**k up".

One wrote: "You just described all the horrible ways your mother treats your wife and still went behind your wife's back on this to satisfy your mom. The baby is days old, but you couldn't wait another week or something.

"Mommy wanted it now, and momma's boy complied. Your wife was right to kick you out. You're acting like you're married to your mom and not her."

Another added: "AND he screamed at her! The absolute nerve! YTA and your wife would be within her moral rights to leave you for this."

A third pointed out: "I just love the irony. He says right out of the gate that his mom doesn't respect boundaries. Then he turns around and disrespects his wife's boundaries and expects his mom to leave after 2 hours.

"Then SURPRISE, mom doesn't respect the boundary he placed while violating his wife's boundaries."
