A woman has opened up about her decision to secretly breastfeed someone else's baby while she was babysitting, as he was in distress and she couldn't calm him down any other way.
The woman was looking after her four-year-old nephew while his parents were away and he had been playing with her baby when he got a minor injury, which left both of the kids upset.
The mum had tried other methods to calm the kids down like bribing them with snacks but nothing worked. In her Quora reply to a thread on the subject of breastfeeding, she added that she does not regret breastfeeding the boy while his mum was away as it did calm him down.
In the post, the mum explained: "One time my nephew came to my house as his parents were out of town for a few hours and he liked to play with my baby so he was staying with me. He was four-years-old at the time.
"He was also breastfed by his mum so his mum had left a bottle of her frozen breast milk for him. So when I was breastfeeding my baby I gave him that bottle too. But later while playing with my baby somehow he got injured and started crying."
She added that it was not a serious injury but she still did all the necessary first aid steps to make sure he was ok.
"He didn't stop crying," she said.
"I offered him his favorite [sic] snacks and chocolate too but he refused. Due to all this my baby also started to panic and started to cry. At the time my baby got calm only by breastfeeding so I started to breastfeed my baby. My nephew was still crying so I took him in my arms and offered him my nipple for breastfeeding. And that worked.
"Both my baby and nephew got calm after a few minutes of breastfeeding and stopped crying too. And I have no regret for that."
In response, many praised the mum's quick thinking.
