I saved money on my B&M shop by making one simple change

If there's one thing that households are wanting to do right now, it's to cut some costs. Yet, as the saying goes 'you have to speculate to accumulate' - and at B&M it couldn't be truer at the moment.

The retailer has launched its very first 'bigger packs, better value' promotion and it's going down a storm with shoppers.

Like with any bulk buy offers, such as the ones we've previously priced up by comparing Costco v Tesco, it means you have to spend more in advance and need to have space to store bigger packs, but, if you can, there are some great savings to be made.

And if it's products that you will inevitably buy throughout a month for example, it doesn't make sense not to take advantage of the offers.

I headed along to my local B&M to see what savings I could make by buying big on typical products my family would use over the space of a few months.

The biggest saving was on a 24-pack of Tango Orange, costing £6.50. With its six-pack priced at £2.50, that would usually mean £10 for the two dozen 330ml cans, so I saved £3.50.

I saved on other drinks too, paying £4.50 for a four-pack of 1.5L Coke Zeros, when individually they cost £1.95, saving £1.35. And a 3L bottle of Vimto was £3, whereas it's £1 for just 725ml, a saving of £1.14.

If you drink as much tea as we do, then it's definitely worth shopping around for teabags, especially when it comes to the bigger brands.

While the price of a 240 pack of Tetley is generally around £4 these days, or £3.89 at B&M, its bag of 400 is a particular bargain at £5.25, saving shoppers £1.23.

And I saved on laundry products as well, something I use more than ever with muddy dog towels adding to my endless pile of school uniform, sports kits and everything else anyone cares to stick in the wash.

A 45-wash box of tropical lily Surf powder costs £5.49, but I got a 130-wash box for £13.99, meaning a saving of £1.87. And while the £1.99 cost of Lenor tumble dryer sheets makes them 6p a go, the larger 60-pack for £2.49 brings them down to 4p each, giving a saving of £1.02.

Given the limited amount of time I'm actually using the tumble dryer right now, these will no doubt last quite some time.

It may not seem like huge amounts - and obviously it's only worth it if it's products you would ordinarily buy - but overall I saved just shy of £11 and we all know how much every penny counts at the moment.

A spokesperson from B&M said: “B&M aim to provide customers with an exciting shopping experience, offering great-value branded products at fantastic prices.

"We’re continually seeking out the best-value across all our ranges and our current bigger pack range enables customers to get more for their money on their everyday essentials”.
