'I salute you!' Piers Morgan praises teen rapper Alex Mann for ‘slaying’ Glastonbury performance with Dave

Piers Morgan praised teenage rapper Alex Mann for “slaying” Glastonbury after the festival-goer stole the show with his rendition of Dave’s Thiago Silver.

The 15-year-old was picked from the crowd by the Streatham-based rapper to perform his and AJ Tracey’s ode to the Paris Saint-Germain player on Sunday in front of thousands of people.

The footage went viral as thousands of fans praised the teenager, who hails from Somerset, for his word-perfect performance.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss his overnight fame, Mann managed to win over the approval of the hard-to-please presenter with his rapping skills.

“It’s an amazing thing, you know,” Morgan mused. “Some people, you get a chance in life and it can go horribly wrong and you’re remembered for it going horribly wrong.

“You took your chance and you slayed it, you slayed Glastonbury so I salute you, young Alex, for a brilliant thing.

“That’s what the youth of today should be doing more of - taking their chance and slaying it.”

Mann described the attention his performance has received as “crazy” and revealed that he has received offers to perform at other gigs.

He added that he hopes to stay in contact with Dave in the future.

Discussing the viral moment in an interview with The Guardian yesterday, he shut down claims that the spontaneous performance was staged.

“It was 100 per cent real,” he said. “Completely just happened… I have only ever seen him once before at a show in Bristol.”

“I’m not sure what was going through my head,” he added. “I was so nervous. I thought: ‘What if I mess up?’ But then I went on stage and performed and it felt so good.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am - 8.30am on ITV.
