When you book a flight with someone it's usually because you want to travel with them, including sitting next to them on the plane.
But because this sometimes comes at an extra cost, some people opt to just take their assigned seats to save money, instead of paying a fee to be seated together.
One traveller was baffled when a pair of newlyweds who were on their honeymoon asked him to switch with one of them so they could sit together – to which he refused.
The anonymous man explained the situation on a popular Reddit forum, where several people have recently shared experiences of refusing to give up their pre-booked plane seats.

He explained: "So here's the thing, I booked a window seat and beside me was a lady who is the wife of the guy on the seat in the middle row.
"Apparently they are newlyweds and they want to be seated together. They asked me if they can change seats with me to which I politely refused and gave them my reasons."
The man's first reason was his "size and aisle traffic". Previously he was injured after a trolley hit into his elbow, and he has "avoided the aisle seat ever since".
His second reason was that this plane ride was the second and longest of the three flights he was taking that day, and he wanted to "sleep and relax"
He continued: "The other guy who is seated with the husband tried to persuade me to change seats too, making a scene as if I was the scrooge in the couple's honeymoon. I didn't budge and all the people around me, including the crew, looked like they hate me."

He said he felt like "the villain in their love story" but added: "If it is your honeymoon, I would assume that you made your reservations in advance, why the hell didn't you book seats where you will be seated together in advance instead of bothering other passengers? "
The man concluded: "When I had my honeymoon, I pre-booked my seats and never bothered anyone".
Most people agreed that the man wasn't in the wrong for refusing to give up his seat, and that they should have pre-booked if they wanted to sit together.
One person said: "If you book a seat on a airplane, you are not the a**hole for sitting in that seat. That's how reservations work. End of story."
Another added: "If they wanted to be seated together so badly, they should have paid extra to reserve seats together. It always boggles my mind that they don't plan through like that, and then expect others to just give up a certain seat that passenger paid for specifically."
Several people asked why the wife didn't swap with the man who was sitting next to the husband.
The man replied saying: "I think they really wanted the window seat. But eventually settled for the middle row when the guy beside her hubby eventually transferred to the seat beside me."
