I referred to AAP leaders from outside, not migrants, says Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi

CHANDIGARH: A day after his remarks on migrants from UP, Bihar and Delhi made in the presence of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during Tuesday’s rally in Ropar stoked a controversy, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday claimed his statement had been distorted by the rival parties. He said he was referring to AAP leaders coming to Punjab from outside and not the migrants coming to work in Punjab.

In a video message, Channi said, "Since yesterday, my statement has been distorted. Migrants in Punjab have always contributed to the development of the state. They work in factories and elsewhere and they enjoy our love and affection. We have a close relationship with them.

I was talking about AAP leaders like Durgesh Path ak, Sanjay Singh and Arvind Kejriwal who come to Punjab and cause disruptions. . . Migrants come to Punjab to help in development and they have also supported the agriculture sector. Just like migrants from other states come to Punjab, Punjabis also go elsewhere to work… People like Kejriwal have come here to spread anarchy while migrants come here to contribute to the development. The two should not be confused,” he said. At a rally in Ropar, Channi had said that those from UP and Bihar, whom he referred to as "bhaiye", should not be allowed to enter Punjab.
