Takehiro Tomiyasu has spoken for the first time as an Arsenal player.
The 22-year-old became the Gunners' sixth signing of the summer transfer window when sealing his £19.75m deal from Serie A side Bologna on deadline day.
Tomiyasu joins Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale as the new faces at the Emirates Stadium this season and could make his debut at home to Norwich City after the international break.
A right-back who is equally adept operating as a centre-back, the Japan international could turn out to be an astute signing made by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu.
And the defender has a message for Arsenal supporters.
Taking time out whilst on international duty with Japan ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification double-header against Oman and China PR, Tomiyasu made a promise to fans of his new club.
"Hi Arsenal supporters, I'm Tomi from Bologna," he said. "I'm so happy to be part of the team.
"I promise you I will give everything to contribute to the team. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the stadium."
As mentioned above, Tomiyasu could get his first taste of Premier League football a week on Saturday when the Canaries visit the Emirates Stadium with both teams in need of three points.
Arteta has also outlined exactly what Tomiyasu will bring to the Arsenal squad.
"Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level," the told Arsenal.com. "He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball.
"He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty."
