Barry Douglas has claimed Joe Rothwell is being played out of position at Rangers.
The defender - who played alongside Rothwell at Blackburn Rovers - believes Russell Martin could get more out of the midfielder with a position tweak.
Speaking on Open Goal, Douglas branded Rothwell as the "quickest guy on the planet with the ball" as he stated he should be utilised further up the pitch.
"They have brought in some new personnel, but I don't think they really know the way of getting the best out of those players", said Douglas.

"You mentioned Rothers, Joe. I played with him at Blackburn, quickest guy on the planet with the ball, in the pockets, so good.
"But now I see him at Rangers dropping deep and starting attacks. I don't think that's his best position.
"He needs to be in the pockets receiving it from that kind of player.
"You don't know how quick he is with a ball. He's rapid, honestly."

Despite the role switch to a holding position in the centre of the park, Douglas believes Rothwell still has the credentials to be a successful Rangers signing.
He added: "I think he definitely can do a job there, but to get the most effectiveness out of his game, I think you need him in the pockets.
"He's technically very good.
"But it's not just one player, you need good players round about you to get the best out of each other. I don't think they have that sync."
