A Wisconsin shopper ordered four designer bags on Nordstrom’s website, including a large Bottega purse. However, when she tries to return them, she is shocked when a manager suggests they aren’t authentic.
In a video with over 192,000 views, TikToker Emalee Van Schoick (@emvanschoick) says she ordered a few designer handbags from Nordstrom, but ultimately decided to return them because she “didn’t like them.”
She returned them to Nordstrom, but noticed she didn’t receive her refund seven days later. The Nordstrom app also shows that the bags were not returned.
Van Schoick says she called the store multiple times and finally got hold of a manager. However, the manager says they can’t process the return because the bags couldn’t be authenticated.
“Finally, after I reached out several times, I got a call from the store manager saying they’re not authentic,” she says. “They never reached out to me.”
Did Nordstrom claim the designer bags were fake?
After the Nordstrom manager’s shocking claims, Van Schoick decides to drive three hours to the Milwaukee store to see the bags for herself.
“I want to see what you’re claiming is not authentic,” she says. “This is the most insane thing ever. We’re talking like 14 grand.”
She also wonders why the store didn’t reach out when the bags weren’t authenticated.
“Were they going to hope I wouldn’t notice they weren’t returned?” she asks.
Van Schoick says she planned to file a police report if the return wasn’t processed.
Did Nordstrom process the return?
In a follow-up video, the TikToker speaks with the manager and questions why she wasn’t refunded for her bags, which she brought directly from Nordstrom.
“The bags are not able to be authenticated right now,” the manager says behind the checkout desk. “However, we did process a return for you.”
The manager continues that she will honor the return because the worker processed a return without authenticating the bags.
“I do have to let you know, though, that we won’t be able to accept further designer bag returns,” the manager says. Van Schoick assures her that she won’t make another purchase at Nordstrom after the experience.
After processing the return, the manager brings out the bags that Van Schoick previously returned.
The manager explains that she isn’t claiming the bags are fake, but due to guidelines, they can’t authenticate them in-store. According to Nordstrom’s website, designer goods can’t be returned to Nordstrom Rack locations, but may be accepted at Nordstrom department stores.
How did viewers react to the Nordstrom designer bags issue?
In the comments, viewers say they had similar experiences when trying to return luxury items to Nordstrom.
“My husband bought me a watch, I went to return it with the box, receipt, everything and the SA said they never carried that watch and I could not return it. What?? Am I just printing Nordstrom receipts, and price tags at home!? Finally, the store manager got involved and returned it. But it was a huge embarrassing nightmare!” one shares.
“Their returns are terrible. I had the same thing happen with a David Yurman bracelet,” another writes.
“This happened to me at Nordstrom with an MCM bag about 6 years ago…,” a third says.
“I ordered a perfume, didn’t like it and they said it was fake too! After 495 bucks, I sit in misery with a perfume I don’t like,” a fourth commenter adds.
