The teenage daughter of David Bowie and Iman has spoken out about missing her mother, whom she has not seen in six months because of the coronavirus outbreak.

On Sunday, Lexi Bowie, 19, marked Mother’s Day in the US by sharing a photograph on Instagram of herself as a toddler in her mother’s arms.

Writing in the caption, the teenage artist explained that she and Iman live on opposite sides of the US and have been unable to reunite due to travel restrictions.

“Everyone pls stay inside [sic],” Ms Bowie began, explaining that she is currently living in New York.

“I haven’t seen my mom for six months because we live on opposite coasts and it is very difficult to leave NY right now,” she added.

“But I’m a child and I miss her dearly so pls be party poopers this one time so it doesn’t take 2 f***ing years to see her again thank you! [sic]”

Ms Bowie’s post has garnered more than 10,900 likes so far and thousands of comments from fans and celebrities, including the actor Thandie Newton, who commented with a heart emoji.

In a comment responding to someone who pointed out that the pandemic had not been going on for six months, the teenager added that she and her mother typically see each other “once every few months” given that they live in different US states.

“It had already been a good couple months since I saw her when this whole thing happened,” she explained.

“So yeah it has been six months and it could end up being way longer.”
