A Cheesecake Factory customer orders a slice of the restaurant’s seven-layer Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake to treat herself. However, she’s so disappointed by the portion that she calls a manager when she gets home.
In a video with over 261,000 views, TikToker Ami (@ami736761) shows a thin slice of chocolate cake in an aluminum takeout container.
“This is not how it usually comes. I am so disappointed,” she says. “I might just contact customer support. It’s never been this boneless. It’s usually a thick cake.”
She notes that she paid $12 for the small slice of cake.
“I’m pretty sure the girl behind the counter split one serving in half and gave me the other half,” Ami laments.
Did she contact Cheesecake Factory?
In a follow-up video, Ami films herself calling the Cheesecake Factory’s manager. She tells the manager that she ordered a slice of cake to go, but was disappointed with the portion size.
The manager thanks her for bringing the issue to his attention and gives her his cell number to text him a picture of the cake.
“Maybe it was the first or last slice,” the manager says. “Sometimes those are the toughest ones to get.”
In a brief update, she says she texted the manager a picture but didn’t receive an immediate response.
Finally, she posts a third follow-up video sharing that the manager offered her a $15 gift card to make up for the tiny portion size and inconvenience. However, she didn’t immediately respond to his text.
“I just want a refund. I don’t know what to respond,” she says. “Should I accept the $15 gift card?”
How did viewers react to the tiny cake slice?
In the comments of her final video, viewers encourage her to take the $15 gift card.
“You ate the cheesecake so a $15 gift card is very nice on their part,” one writes.
“I mean, I’m sure you’re going to go to cheesecake factory again sometime take the $15 gift card,” another says.
“Personally, I always give an establishment a second chance if I am not happy with an experience or if it’s the first time I have tried something from them. I would take the gift card. And at least give them one more shot. Now if they mess up the second time, there will not be a third,” a third viewer suggests.
Other commenters say they would stop buying from the Cheesecake Factory if their slices continued to stay small, pointing to “shrinkflation.”
“I need everyone to go buy a slice of your fav dessert, and then RETURN IT. I bet after 345,567 refund requests in 10 days, they will get the hint!” a commenter writes.
“Only way to stop it, is for us to stop buying it unfortunately. this goes for everything in shrinkflation,” another says.
“To all of us that spend hard earned money on a little sweet treat, it’s time to boycott Cheesecake Factory cause this is ridiculous,” a viewer proposes to other customers.
