‘I messed up’: Panicked dispatcher heard saying during LaGuardia plane crash

  • An Air Canada Jazz Aviation passenger plane collided with a fire truck after landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and co-pilot.
  • The flight, arriving from Montreal with 76 passengers, struck the Port Authority truck on Runway 4, which was responding to a separate incident.
  • Air traffic control audio captured panicked dispatchers attempting to avert the collision, with one controller admitting, “I messed up.”
  • Forty-one passengers were hospitalized, nine of whom are still receiving treatment, while two fire truck personnel are in stable condition with broken limbs.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration has closed LaGuardia Airport until at least 2 p.m. ET Monday, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision.
