"I'm very serious" - Daniel Ek breaks silence after Stan Kroenke statement on Arsenal takeover

Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek has doubled down on his assertion that he wants to buy Arsenal despite a statement from the club's current owners saying that it is not for sale.

The Swedish billionaire first expressed his interest last Friday after seeing thousands of fans gather outside the Emirates to protest the Kroenke's ownership of the club.

Reports quickly emerged that Ek was legitimate in his intentions, with some suggesting that he could get the support of Gunners legends Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry to help the bid.

However, KSE released a statement on Tuesday evening reaffirming their desire to keep a hold of the club as an asset, claiming that they have every intention of investing this summer.

"In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a potential takeover bid for Arsenal Football Club," read the statement signed by Stan and Josh Kroenke.

"We remain 100% committed to Arsenal and are not selling any stake in the Club. We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer.

"Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this."

This however, does not seem to have put off Ek who reaffirmed on Wednesday he intends to make a bid for the club sooner rather than later.

"Well you know I've been an Arsenal fan since I was 8," he told CNBC. "Arsenal is my team, I love the history, I love the players and of course I love the fans.

"So, as I look at that I just see a tremendous opportunity to set a real ambition for the club to bring it back to it’s glory. I wanna establish trust with fans and I wanna engage with fans again.

"So to answer your question I'm very serious. I’ve secured the funds for it and I want to bring what I think is a very compelling offer to the owners. I hope they hear me out."

He went on to add that despite the Kroenkes initial resistance he was still intent on trying to buy the club he supports however long it might take.

"I’ve been a fan for 30 years of this club and I certainly didn’t expect that this would happen overnight and I'm prepared that this could be a long journey.

"All I can do is prepare, what I think is a very thoughtful offer and bring it to them and hope they hear me out."
