'I'm tired of making excuses' - Dele Alli vows to reach potential after Mourinho's Spurs arrival

Dele Alli has admitted that he was not good enough for Spurs last season, but says he is tired of making excuses and wants to reach his full potential.

Mauricio Pochettino was sacked after a poor run of form domestically, with Jose Mourinho brought in to replace him.

Following a win at West Ham in which the midfielder played a key role, the 23-year-old says he is his own biggest critic, and it does not matter where he plays under Mourinho as long as he is playing.

"I asked Harry for the No.10 shirt, he wouldn't give it to me though," Dele joked to BT Sport when asked about his favoured role.

"I enjoy scoring, I enjoy assisting: I want to help the team as much as I can. I like to press high. But also, if the game needs it "I like to be deep as well and get on the ball there and create stuff. I'm happy to play. We've got so many great players. They're all a joy to play with.

"Whatever position it be, I just want to be where I can effect the game the most. I'm my own biggest critic.

"Like I've said before, I expect a lot from myself and I never will stop that. I'm gonna keep achieving more and more and getting better and better.

"I'm tired of making excuses for last season because I know it wasn't good enough, whether I had injuries or not. It's a new year, a new season - I just have to make sure I grow and reach my full potential."
