'I'm sure' - Calvin Ramsay eyes Liverpool opportunity after 'nervous' moment

Calvin Ramsay has admitted to feeling nervous ahead of his long-awaited Liverpool debut - but is convinced there will be more first-team opportunities to come.

Ramsay made his first appearance since arriving from Aberdeen in the summer when he emerged from the bench for the closing moments of the Reds' 2-0 Champions League win over Napoli at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

The 19-year-old had been absent since his arrival due to an injury detecting during his medical which needed treatment, before building up his fitness with the under-21 side for whom he scored on Saturday in the 3-0 Premier League 2 win at West Ham United.

And stepping out in Europe's premier club competition was a dream come true for the right-back.

"I was a bit nervous, to be honest," said Ramsay. "Since I came to the club I've been injured but I'm just delighted to be back now. I've played a few games with the U21s and built up my fitness. So to be back in the first-team squad and come on, my family there, (it's) a moment I won't forget.

"It's just a dream come true, something I've dreamed of as a little kid. To actually be playing in the Champions League, it's just amazing.

"I just need to keep working hard in training, try to prove what I can do. And if I keep working hard, I'm sure I'll get more opportunities – Champions League, Premier League, whatever it may be. So hopefully I can get more minutes under my belt."

While Liverpool's victory wasn't enough to leapfrog Napoli and finish top of Group A, it means they have now won their last five Champions League games after being thumped 4-1 in Italy back in September.

And Ramsay, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, added: "Obviously we knew it was going to be a tough game, we knew what they were going to come here and do. But I'm just delighted to get three points. They're a top team, we knew that. To play the way we did and keep a clean sheet on the form they've been on, it's a very good result. I'm just delighted.

"And to come on and make my debut in the Champions League is a special moment. To have my family here as well, it makes it even more special. I'm delighted."
