In a world where Hollywood pushes out reboot after reboot, it’s extremely hard for these upcycled flicks to leave a fandom gagged. However, for 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer — a revival of the iconic 90s slasher — the ending has left me gooped, gagged and wanting more.
This article contains spoilers for I Know What You Did Last Summer. You’ve been warned.
Now, before I deep dive into all the little thriller Easter Eggs this mother of a movie has laid, I implore you to watch its predecessors — I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) — before heading into the 2025 reboot and reading this article. I promise you, it’ll give you Jimmy Neutron “brain blast” satisfaction!

There is no doubt that the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise made a huge impact on horror movies and storytelling. The OG film was spooky, it was jam-packed with suspense, and it featured a stellar cast.
And let’s not forget its cultural impact, which was so big it became the base of many parody movies, like Scary Movie by the Wayans Bros and the 2000s Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th.
So, with a revival in the year of our lord 2025, a reboot would’ve been ‘yugeee ball buster in terms of getting the horror movie fanatics geeked up for more. However, as someone who’s feasted their eyes on the reboot, the ending and its little nods to the OG franchise are just… *chef’s kiss*.
So, if you might be a bit confused with the ending, *that* cameo AND a cheeky little easter egg which hints at a beloved character’s return, here’s the I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025’s ending explained.
(I’ll try my best to leave out the big spoilers.)
What happens at the end of I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025?
After the big climax, in which we learn who the killer (AKA the Fisherman) is — which features a MASSIVE twist — we are treated to a mid-credit scene.
The bonus scene begins with a news report of the horrific events that unfolded at Southport, which detailed the deaths and the identity of the Fisherman. As the camera pans out, we discover that we’re in the house of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer‘s Karla Wilson, played by Brandy.

As Karla soaked in the news, her doorbell mysteriously rang. DUN DUN DUN. As she slowly opened the door, she’s met with old pal and OG final girl, Julie James, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt.
While the pair embrace their brief reunion, Julie reveals that she received another cursed letter with the iconic phrase that reads, “IT ISN’T OVER”, with a photo of the pair from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
An Easter Egg that suggested Brandy’s return to I Know What You Did Last Summer
While Brandy’s character wasn’t directly mentioned, Ray Bronson, played by Freddie Prinze Jr, briefly mentioned the shitshow that was I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
To give you a quick recap, in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Julie is still reeling from the trauma bestowed upon her in I Know What You Did Last Summer. However, amongst all of the chaos, Karla — her college roommate at the time — wins a radio competition where she bags a trip to the Bahamas, to which Julie tags along with a bunch of new friends.
But with horror movies being horror movies, the Fisherman followed Julie to the tropical escape, turning the Bahamas getaway into a blood bath.
In the 2025 reboot, after Danica Richards (played by Madelyn Cline) gets the first “I Know What You Did Last Summer” letter, the gang look to Ray for help. As they pull up possible scenarios to survive this Southport deviant, Teddy Spencer (played by Tyriq Withers) briefly suggests leaving and heading to the Bahamas to escape.
Of course, Ray scoffs at the idea, stating that escaping to the Bahamas won’t solve their problems, referencing the horrors that unfolded in the 1998 sequel.

Is there going to be another I Know What You Did Last Summer after the 2025 reboot?
At the time of writing, there hasn’t been any confirmed news regarding a sequel. However, Karla and Julie’s mid-credit scene definitely sets up that possibility.
As someone who loves a great slasher and a HUGE fan of Brandy — especially when she was Cinderella, which featured Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother — the ending was a bloody treat. Fingers crossed we get another one, but Brandy must survive or I’ll riot.
