'I'm six months pregnant and just discovered my husband's affair with my best friend'

A heartbroken mum has shared her devastation after discovering that her husband has been having an affair with her best friend for the past four months - despite her being six months pregnant with their third child.

The woman explained she has recently been struggling to juggle her pregnancy with the sad news that her dad has colon cancer and has been given a prognosis of "months not years" by his doctor. And although the news has been tough for her to handle, she said her husband and her best friend have been by her side throughout it all.

However, the mum recently stumbled across a text message on her husband's phone when she was turning off his alarm for him which made her blood run cold - her best friend had asked him when he was going to tell his wife about them.

In a post on Reddit, the woman said: "My husband and I have been dating since I was 19 and he was 22. We've been married for six years now. We have two kids and I'm six months pregnant with our third.

"About five months ago we discovered the treatments [for my dad's colon cancer] aren't working for him and to directly quote the doctor he said, 'months not years'. Since then he's gotten progressively worse and now is losing memory.

"My husband has been my absolute rock. He has been there for me holding my hand and helping me through this. He's been so loving and attentive to both my kids and I. Don't get me wrong, I am a mother first always. I don't allow myself to wallow. My kids are still loved, cared for, played with, and I haven't let my load slack around the house.

"My best friend and I have been friends since nappies. Her family is like my family and vice versa. My mum and her mum grew up together. We've always been solid and right after my dad's appointment when we found out he had so little time left I drove straight to her house and she held me while I cried for hours. If there are soulmates in friend form, she was mine."

The woman then explained that she heard her husband's alarm go off on his phone telling him to get up for work, and when she went to wake him up and switch the alarm off, she saw the horrifying text.

She added: "As I went to turn off his alarms I saw a text from my friend on his screen that said 'I'm assuming since there hasn't been an angry pregnant lady on my doorstep, you haven't told her about us yet?

"Time froze at that moment. I took his phone and walked away and just read their conversations. For four months this man has been f***ing my best friend. For four months these people have been lying to my face."

She insisted she didn't see any "warning signs", and is devastated that she's now going to lose her "family and support system in one blow", as she knows she needs to cut off her friend and end her relationship with her husband.

In an update to her original post, the woman said she didn't plan on confronting her husband until the next day, so spent that day talking to her lawyer and getting her mother-in-law involved - who is firmly on her side.

She said: "My MIL told me she couldn't believe she raised a spineless terrible human. And that no matter what happens I will always have her and as far as she's concerned she doesn’t have a son, only a daughter."

Commenters on the post applauded the woman for how she had handled the devastating news, and sent their sympathies to her.

One person said: "I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Don't give her the satisfaction of getting 'an angry pregnant lady on her doorstep'. What you thought you had with her is dead. Save your emotions for what really matters, being there for your dad."

While another added: "That's terrible. All that you're going through and they do this to you."
