'I'm raging' - Edinburgh reacts to Boris Johnson's Ruth Davidson peerage offer

Ruth Davidson has been nominated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson for a seat in the House of Lords.

The Edinburgh Central MSP has been given the chance to become a baroness despite historically clashing with Johnson over Brexit.

People have been quick to point out the appointment could mean the 41-year-old MSP spending less time in her central Edinburgh constituency.

This news has not been welcomed by all her constituents with one Twitter user writing: "Between second jobs and lack of attendance at surgeries, I think we've seen just how low down the list her constituents really are."

Elsewhere someone wrote: "If her attendance in her own constituency is used as an indicator of how often she'd bother to turn up in the House of Lords then we are safe."

"If Ruth Davidson goes to the Lords and stays in Holyrood it will speak volumes for her commitment to her Edinburgh constituents," argued another.

Some social media users praised the decision and backed former Scottish Conservative leader for the peerage.

"So apparently Ruth Davidson is expected to be put forward for a seat in the Lords. Good choice, if anyone she deserves it and worked hard for it," one wrote.

Davidson stepped down as leader of the Scottish Conservatives in August last year and is set to stand down at the 2021 Holyrood elections.

But if she become a peer she could potentially hold onto both seats until next spring.
