A server warns customers to “keep some thoughts to [themselves]” after one table shared their unfiltered thoughts about her celebrity look-alike.
In a video with over 3.4 million views, TikToker and model Evelyn Rain (@evrain23) stands at the sink of the bathroom at the restaurant where she works.
She says a man at the table she served told her she “looked like someone,” but he couldn’t think of who.
Who is her celebrity look-alike?
“I start listing all the people everyone says I look like,” she says. “I’m like, ‘Oh, Rihanna?’ because of the forehead. Or Zendaya because of my hair and my vibe.”
The man’s response shocks her.
“Yeah. Zendaya but with Down Syndrome,” he insists. On-screen text reads, “Normalize keeping some thoughts to ourselves.”
She jokes that she’s “quitting” and suggests that her nose shape sparked the comparison. In a comment, she says that she laughed it off in front of the customer.
The caption reads, “The craziest thing said to me by far, this beats my ‘Walmart Rihanna’ story.”
How did viewers react to the comparison?
Many viewers believe the customer crossed a line with his comparison, saying it wasn’t in good faith.
“That is actually very disrespectful to you and Zendaya, I am so sorry that someone would even say that, let alone think it,” one writes.
“Who tf says that to a person?” another asks.
“My jaw is on the floor. That’s so mean. IT’S NOT TRUE,” a third commenter insists.
“I can understand the nose correlation, but that doesn’t make it a bad thing. Someone with Down syndrome is still a human at the end of the day. I do not think they should have told you that, though. It is irrelevant to them,” a fourth adds.
The abuse one experiences as a server
Some note that the rude comment highlights verbal abuse that many servers experience on the job. A 2021 survey reports that 62% of servers have been verbally and emotionally abused by customers.
“If someone said that to me, I’d tell my manager I’m not serving them,” a commenter says.
“The stuff people say the servers like we are not real people,” another remarks.
“On god people need to really learn some manners and learn how to treat people who work in hospitality before they come out and try eating in public,” a third laments.
Others share what they believe are more accurate celebrity look-alikes for Rain.
“I thought more of Lily Rose Depp,” one suggests.
“My first thought was Tyra Banks,” another writes.
“Why is nobody saying she looks like Ariana Greenblatt. She looks so much like her,” a third says.
“I was thinking Zoe Saldana,” a fourth offers.
