'I'm pretty hands-on' dad to 'wonderful kid' Wilfred, says proud Boris Johnson

Gushing Boris Johnson declared himself a “pretty hands on” dad with “wonderful kid” baby Wilfred today .

The Prime Minister and fiancee Carrie Symonds welcomed the lad's arrival in April, just weeks after the Conservative leader was discharged from hospital after suffering coronavirus.

The Prime Minister, 56, usually refuses to talk about his private life.

But, opening up, he told LBC: “He's a wonderful kid, an absolutely wonderful kid.”

He said becoming a father is "an absolutely wonderful time", but added: "But for me at any rate it is very, very busy so the concept of paternity leave is not one that I've really been able to deal with."

Asked by presenter Nick Ferrari: "What's the best part... cuddling him, changing him, feeding him, reading to him?", Mr Johnson replied: "All that... it is a very detailed operation and there's a lot of it, but I'm pretty hands-on."

Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson is the Prime Minister’s sixth child and was born on Apri 29 on only the PM's third day back at work after his sick leave.

In an image posted on her Instagram account in May, Ms Symonds, 32 said: "Introducing Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson born on 29.04.20 at 9am.

“Wilfred after Boris' grandfather, Lawrie after my grandfather, Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart - the two doctors that saved Boris' life last month."
