'I'm over the moon' - Troy Parrott reacts after grabbing brace to transform Ireland's fortunes against Andorra

Troy Parrott expressed his relief after his first two senior Ireland goals rubbed out Andorra's shock second-half lead at this evening's friendly encounter.

Parrott, 19, pounced twice in the space of three minutes in response to Marc Vales' 52nd minute header from a free-kick as Ireland's defence went AWOL.

Stephen Kenny's side eventually claimed a 4-1 win - the first of the Dubliner's 12-match reign - and the manager has the Tottenham teenager, in only his second start this level, to thank for turning a potential horror show around.

"I'm over the moon, to be fair, when the second one went in," said Parrott.

"I was so, so relieved even after the first one, it's the first win we've got in a couple of games and I couldn’t be happier, really," he told RTE.

"It just goes to show how something so small can change the way the game is going.

"The free-kick is poor on our behalf, but the most important thing is we kept in the game and kept winning."

Parrott's first goal was a memorable one as he took the initiative, cutting inside before cooly dispatching a shot into the bottom left hand corner.

"Once I got the ball and seen the space in front of me just wanted to go," he said. "I think it would be silly to turn down the chance to go.

"When the ball hits the back of the net I was so relieved and I guess it changed the way the game was going."

The second goal was a far post header, with Parrott leaping high over his marker to head home from Daryl Horgan's cross.

"He put it on a plate for me," said Parrott. "I seen it coming and I got there and the ball went in the back of the net again. All over I’m delighted, to be fair.

"It’s a really young squad mixed with experience, the older lads are helping us out a lot.

"This should give us a lot of confidence going into the next game and the qualifiers. Hopefully we can take it in our stride and keep going and get the wins."
