'I’m not that dumb' - Jurgen Klopp admits major Liverpool worry with Champions League qualification in doubt

Jurgen Klopp is concerned Liverpool could miss out on Champions League qualification after his team’s disappointing season slumped to a dire new low.

An 89th-minute goal from Crysencio Summerville earned struggling Leeds United a shock 2-1 Premier League win at Anfield on Saturday night.

It was Liverpool’s first home top-flight defeat since being beaten 1-0 by Fulham in March 2021, and their first such loss in front of supporters since April 2017.

The result means the Reds are in ninth place, eight points off the top four after 12 games, albeit with a game in hand, and have still won just four times in the league this season.

And when asked if he was worried about securing a Champions League berth, Klopp said: “Yes. That’s actually not my main worry at the moment as I have a lot of other worries. But, of course, I’m not that dumb that I don’t know about distances and who is up there.

“You cannot qualify for the Champions League if you play as inconsistent as we do at the moment. We have to fix that. Then we will see where we end up.

“We all know that a lot of things are possible, but for that we have to win football games which we haven’t done that often.”
